Elmshorn („Elveshorn“ in Low German) - the sixth largest city in Schleswig-Holstein, located approx. 30 km northwest of Hamburg on the Elbe tributary Krückau - successfully completed another section of the Hafenspange project on August 21, 2013. The major urban construction project, which took 30 years to plan and five years to build (the opening ceremony is on September 6, 2013), includes the new „Käpten-Jürs-Klappbrücke“ bridge as well as a new harbour square. It is located on the northern bank of the Krückau next to the bascule bridge and will offer Elmshorn canoeists and rowers as well as visitors the opportunity to launch their boats close to the city center. This will create important new impulses for regional club sports and tourists.
