Sunshine galore, 25 degrees. You want to go for a swim, take a boat trip, a bike ride along the Elbe or Havel. Under normal circumstances. But the current idyll in Havelberg is deceptive, because next Monday/Tuesday, the peak of the 2013 floods is expected here at 4.86 meters. The whole town is on its feet and preparing for an emergency. Yesterday, for example, the residents of the Sandau nursing home were evacuated as a precaution and accommodated by the German Armed Forces in Havelberg - with the support of Kiebitzberg® Möbelwerkstätten. „It goes without saying that we help wherever we are needed,“ says Operations Manager Thomas Franke, who is coordinating the flood support from the company side.
„Today we are at the Havelberg tourist information office with four employees and a van to help dismantle the furniture,“ adds Kiebitzberg® Managing Director Andreas Lewerken. The staff at the tourist information office had already started packing up their documents on Wednesday and clearing out the building, which is located directly on the Havel. „Everything will be safe there in the afternoon. Then we will take the final precautions on the shipyard site,“ continued Andreas Lewerken, who is in close contact with those responsible in Havelberg in order to be able to help directly with trucks or boats in an emergency situation.
