Short biography of Floraleda Sacchi
Described by music critics as an artist of exceptional musicality and talent, Floraleda Sacchi is one of the few harpists in the world who has appeared as a soloist in major concert halls worldwide. Today she is considered one of the most interesting and original harpists on the international concert scene. Critics also consider her to be a true innovator in terms of her instrumental methodology.
Her acclaimed CDs are already part of the history of harp music and have become cult. In fact, Floraleda is the only harpist to record for four major music companies (Decca, Universal, Philips and Deutsche Grammophon). Among her Decca recordings, the following works stand out: „Minimal Harp“ (a project for solo harp, described by several magazines as „fascinating“ and which has brought out a new repertoire for the instrument); ‚Harp Dances‘ (“The best harp playing I've ever heard“ American Record Guide) and „Harp Favorites“ (a collection of baroque classics for harp and loop station). In 2011, a piece of the Cd Harp Favorites was included in the album „Classica 2011“, by Deutsche Grammophon, and side by side with the famous names of classical music (Abbado, Barenboim, Lang Lang ...). The most important composers have composed for Floraleda and her instrument. The original „Portraits‚ Collection“ was created from these collaborations. This CD series is published by Amadeus Arte.
Floraleda has performed as a soloist in major halls and festivals around the world: Carnegie Hall-Weill Recital Hall (New York), United Nations Palace (New York), Gewandhaus (Leipzig), Konzerthaus (Belin), Auditorium Binyanei Hauma (Jerusalem), Teatro Bibiena (Mantova), Sala Verdi (Milan), Teatro Valle (Rome), Matsuo Hall (Tokyo), Prefecture Hall Alti (Kyoto), Salle Varèse (Lyon), Gasteig (Munich), Concerts de la Croix Rouge (Geneva), Theater Bellevue (Amsterdam), Gessler Hall (Vancouver), CBC-Glenn Gould Studio (Toronto), Emilia Romagna Festival, Società del Quartetto Milano, Festival Pontino, Festival Musica keine Museo (Rio de Janeiro), Rosegart Foundation (Lucerne), etc .
Floraleda has performed as a soloist with various orchestras (Neubrandenburger Philharmonie, Orchester Giovanile Italiana, Camerata Portuguesa, Milli Reasürans Oda Orkestrası, Orchester 1813 Chesapeake Orchestra, Orchestra Toscanini, ecc.) interpreting the great classics of the repertoire (Mozart, Boieldieu, Debussy .. .) and giving rarely performed concerts (Pizzetti, Hahn ...). She has also appeared as a soloist on Italian television as part of the Christmas ‚Concert, which is broadcast worldwide.
She has created shows such as „Journey to the Moon“, produced by the Milan Planetarium, and the soundtrack to „Winged Words“ (released on DVD by the University of Milan, directed by Lamberto Puggelli). She also often collaborates with actors in theater performances. Recently she composed the incidental music, which she plays live during the performance, for the play-monologue „Donna non rieducabile“, starring the well-known actress Ottavia Piccolo, directed by Silvano Piccardi. The show - which has received numerous awards and has had more than 100 performances, in the European Parliament in Brussels and in the most important Italian theaters - was adapted by RAI 2 into a film entitled „The Blood, the Snow“ (directed by Felice Cappa). In addition to national broadcasting, the film was also presented at the 66th Venice Film Festival and released on DVD by PromoMusic.
Floraleda's long list of national and international honors includes top prizes at 16 international competitions from 1997 to 2003, including: Concours UFAM (Paris), Gioventu ‚Musicale Italiana, Rovere d'oro, TIM (Rome), Concorso F. Schubert, Toronto Concerto Competition (Canada), Premio Galbiati (Milan).Since 2006 she has been Art Director of the LakeComo Festival, a series of chamber music concerts held in the historic villas of Lake Como in Italy.
She regularly holds masterclasses in Europe, the United States and Canada (Westminister College - Salt Lake City, Oklahoma University, European Academy of Music, British Columbia University - Vancouver, New York University, Masterclass of Cervo, Conservatorio di Parma, Masterclass of Camerino, etc.).
Parallel to music, she studied English, French and German and devotes herself to photography and writing. In the field of musicology, she won the Harpa Award (Prague, 1999) at the age of 21 for her book on Elias Parish Alvars (1999, Odilia Verlag, 220 pages). She is still considered a world expert on this author. She has published several articles in important journals (American Journal Harp, Harpa, World Harp Congress Review) and has edited dozens of music editions for Ut Orpheus.
Floraleda was born in Como (Italy). She was inspired to play the harp by Annie Challan's recordings. She began studying at the age of 14 under Lisetta Rossi at the Como Conservatoire. She later studied under the guidance of Alice Giles (Frankfurt), Alice Chalifoux (Salzedo School, Camden, ME, USA) and Judy Loman (Toronto, Canada). Info under www.floraledasacchi.com
