Electrode in hand and the goal in sight: as a prospective metalworker specializing in construction technology, you follow a plan at all times, work in a structured manner and love to see a construction project through from start to finish.The construction technician creates large metal structures such as ship parts or containers, steel components, protective grids, transport and loading systems, covers and cladding, containers, sheet metal ducts, car bodies and sheet metal pipes by cutting, welding and bending sheet metal and profiles.
As a metalworker specializing in construction technology, you will plan your work with the help of construction drawings, functional, assembly, welding and circuit diagrams. You will create components, assemblies and constructions from pipes, sheet metal and profiles. During your apprenticeship, you will learn how to saw, cut and tear sheet metal and profiles correctly and then join them together. Assembling components and assemblies is also one of your tasks. You will also apply joints to various materials and then weld them together. To do this, you will select suitable filler materials and welding equipment depending on the job and adjust them precisely for your work. During your apprenticeship, you will learn the various joining techniques such as soldering and welding.
In addition, metalworkers specializing in construction technology can maintain the equipment, tools and machines they need for their work and ensure the quality of their work by carrying out inspections. Metalworker apprentices specializing in construction technology should enjoy physical work and have manual dexterity. It is advantageous if you are fit and have a good spatial sense, as creating models, sketches and drawings is an important task in this profession. The profession is particularly attractive due to the wide range of possible assignments in very different industrial companies. Working with colleagues in a team is also a positive aspect of this job.
after the training:
Even after the apprenticeship, there is still a lot to learn, either through further internal specialization or through further training. If you have worked as a journeyman for at least 3 years after your apprenticeship, you can also register for the master craftsman examination. The acquired master craftsman title allows you to pursue further career opportunities and train apprentices.
