June of this year, the „Spider singers“ at the Havelberg ArtHotel Kiebitzberg®for a benefit concert after the flood. The „Spinnesänger“ - Thomas Riede, Harald Hohmann, Tilo Brensing, Torsten Michel and Thomas Baldovski - delighted the visitors to the benefit concert and waived their fee. The managing directors of the Havelberg Kiebitzberg® Group and hoteliers of the ArtHotel Kiebitzberg®, Renate and Andreas Lewerken, also wanted to help. They then called for a Germany-wide fundraising campaign among their colleagues in the joinery trade and suppliers. And an impressive sum was raised.

This week, hotelier Renate Lewerken set out to distribute donations in the flood area. Her journey took her to the Kamern municipal office. Here she was welcomed by Mayor Klaus Beck and Jürgen and Arno Brandt from the local fire department association. „We wanted to help quickly, unbureaucratically and in a targeted manner here in the Elb-Havel-Winkel. In consultation with Christoph von Katte, the fire department association and the mayor, we decided on three of the many severely affected citizens,“ says Renate Lewerken. The flood victims Sylvia Liban, Sigrid Butcher and Willi Teschner each received a cheque for 1,550 euros.

They all thanked her warmly and Sylvia Liban said: „I think it's great that you're doing something like this for us, as you were actually affected by the floods yourselves, for example by the many cancellations at the ArtHotel.“ Sigrid Butcher lives at the lowest point in the village and was at home alone with her son when the water came. Like many others affected, she had to flee. „I was able to put up with that, the terrible sight after the flood and a lot more, but the bureaucracy afterwards is what gets me down,“ said the senior citizen. Klaus Beck also expressed his thanks and praised people's willingness to help in general. „It's admirable to see the solidarity throughout Germany. We receive donations from places we don't even know,“ he said happily. A donation committee has been set up to ensure fair distribution. „The cohesion of the people in the Elb-Havel-Winkel is important,“ Renate Lewerken concluded.
