Together with the former two-time Berlin-Brandenburg wakeboarding champion, Frank Sorge, the Kiebitzberg® shipyard has developed a world first: For the first time, a surfboat has been built here in Havelberg, between Hamburg and Berlin, that produces two perfect stern waves for surfing and wakeboarding at the same time!
The trend sport for which the boat was built is called „Wakesurfing“. Here, the athlete surfs behind a boat on the wave of the ship. Thanks to easy handling and a high fun factor, wakesurfing is becoming increasingly popular and is now a real alternative to surfing at sea. Water sports enthusiasts can now look forward to dancing with two perfect waves in the coming summer because then wakesurfing will be possible on the Lake Templin near Potsdam for everyone to experience.
2Wave surfboat: a world first from Havelberg
However, surfing on the wave behind a motorboat is only possible if clean waves are created. „Previous boats also offer two shafts, but only one of them is appropriately shaped for riding. The company 2Wave from Premnitz therefore commissioned us a good two years ago to develop a boat that can produce two equivalent shafts,“ explains Andreas Lewerken, head of the Kiebitzberg® Group in Havelberg. 2Wave owner Frank Sorge and shipbuilding engineer Matthias Lutter spent a year and a half working on the special technology and construction of the surfboat. „At around 15 to 18 kilometers per hour, two even, one-meter-long and perfectly shaped waves are now generated,“ explains Matthias Lutter.

The photos show the surf boat prototype, which was launched for the first time on December 15 at the Kiebitzberg® shipyard in Havelberg. Prior to this, the innovative boat was christened „2Wave“.
One boat - two waves
The boat was built in a relatively short time of just under three months. The surfer can now choose between starboard or port without effort Riding waves directly behind the boat, depending on which foot the athlete has on the front of the board. Or he uses both waves equally by jumping from one to the other. It is also possible that two surfers at the same time, each on a wave. With a length of 6.50 meters, the motorboat has eight seats. It is covered and therefore offers protection against strong sunlight or rain. Longer wakesurfing trips lasting several hours are also possible, as there is even a toilet on the boat.
MDR television filmed the maiden voyage
On Thursday, December 15, 2011, the prototype was tested for the first time in Havelberg on the Havel with demanding water sports enthusiasts and subjected to a qualitative test. „We even had a bit of sunshine for the test run,“ says Frank Sorge, whose wife Janine christened the boat in the traditional manner. He then put it to the test himself and surfed behind the new boat together with surfboard builder Werner. This development opens up wakesurfing to all age groups, as the sport is even easier with this boat and the risk of injury is very low.
