Classical music - I like it! - Free children's concert on 17.10.2013 with „Wunderkind“ Elin Kolev (violin) and orchestra in Havelberg
Under the title „Classical music - I like it!“, the Europa Philharmonie from Magdeburg invites children and young people aged 5 to 20 to Havelberg on Thursday, October 17, 2013 (admission: 9.30 am, start: 10.00 am, pre-registration urgently required) for a free educational concert. The 17-year-old „child prodigy“ Elin Kolev will take the 180 registered schoolchildren from Prignitz and Altmark on a journey through Vivaldi's „The Four Seasons“ together with a symphony orchestra conducted by Reinhard Seehafer in the concert hall of the ArtHotel Kiebitzberg®.
The aim of this new pilot project is to facilitate access to classical music for children and young people in northern Saxony-Anhalt. During an on-site visit to the secondary school „Am Weinberg“ in Havelberg on October 7, 2013, initiators Carmen and Reinhard Seehafer were able to see the enthusiasm of the two fifth-grade classes for themselves. „The curiosity of the 11/12-year-olds was overwhelming,“ says Reinhard Seehafer, looking forward to the concert next Thursday at the ArtHotel Kiebitzberg®. „Especially in view of the fact that there are no music lessons in the 5th to 7th grades of this school, the pilot project fulfils a particularly important task,“ emphasizes hotel manager Renate Lewerken.
In addition to learning about the infinite richness of music, the children and young people can talk to the musicians on this day and participate individually in the classical music project.

Elin Kolev, violin
Elin is labeled a „child prodigy“, but what does that mean? That he is so young, so talented, that he is far beyond the „level“ of his musical peers? That he possesses a playful ease with which he masters even the most difficult works with technique and content? „Wunderkind“ means gift, but at the same time danger, of which everyone must be aware: Here is a supertalent that needs to be protected - so that it can develop into a great musician without breaking. Elin is aware of this himself, is happy about the attention he receives, but first and foremost enjoys the gift he has been given: being a musician. His parents support him as much as they can.
Elin Kolev was born in Zwickau in 1996 - into an entirely musical family. At the age of five, Elin began his training at the Robert Schumann Conservatory in Zwickau, and three years later he thrilled 5,000 people at an open-air concert by the Vogtland Philharmonic Orchestra. At the age of 10, Elin was accepted as a junior student in Carolin Widmann's class at the Leipzig University of Music and Theater „Felix Mendelsohn Bartholdy“. Since 2010, he has been studying with Josef Rissin at the University of Music in Karlsruhe.
Once a week, sometimes more, his father drives him from Zwickau to Karlsruhe, and often back again late at night. The next day is school, and he wants to be back. The school, the artistic Clara-Wieck-Gymnasium Zwickau, gives him all the freedom he needs, which he consciously and gratefully accepts. The label „child prodigy“ has a special meaning for Elin. In Marcus O. Rosenmüller's film of the same name, which was produced by Alice and Artur Brauner and tells the touching story of three families during the Second World War from the perspective of the children Larissa, Hanna and Abrascha, Elin plays alongside Gudrun Landgrebe, Kai Wiesinger, Catherine Flemming and Konstantin Wecker. The film won awards at the Jerusalem Film Festival and at Italian film festivals, including the ECFA Award for Best European Film of the Year.
Although Elin Kolev also stood in front of the camera as the young Bronislaw Huberman in 2011 - in the production „Orchestra of Exiles - Bronislaw Huberman“ by Oscar-nominated director Josh Aronson - there is no question for him: he wants to be and will be a violinist, not an actor. Acting is beautiful, it is an important experience, but music, the violin, is his life. This season, Elin will make his debut with the MDR Symphony Orchestra under Jun Märkl, with the Jena Philharmonic Orchestra and at the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad. Elin has been awarded prizes as „Best Young Talent“, the Sarasate Prize and 1st prize at the Ysaÿe Competition (all in 2008), the „European Hope Prize 2010„ and the “Image Award„ (2011) from the city of Zwickau. In 2012, Elin was awarded the Music Promotion Prize of the Kulturfonds Baden e.V.. His first CD in collaboration with the label SONY Classical was “CD of the week" on Klassik-Radio. Since 2009, Elin has been sponsored by the Albert Eckstein Foundation, which has provided him with a violin by Lorenzo Carcassi (Florence) from 1749.
Friends of the Europa Philharmonie
The Förderverein der Europa Philharmonie e.V. is the sponsor of the Europa Philharmonie, which is based in Magdeburg, the capital of Saxony-Anhalt. The orchestra was founded in Görlitz in 1996 by the artistic director Prof. Wolf-Dieter Ludwig and the chief conductor Reinhard Seehafer after the abolition of divisive borders in Europe. Originally founded as a youth orchestra, the Philharmonie is now an established orchestra with an international reputation, made up of members of leading German and European concert and theater orchestras who have accompanied and shaped this orchestra as young music students.
In 2011, the Europa Philharmonie celebrated its 15th anniversary. The musicians have given more than 500 concerts around the world in recent years - often traveling as ambassadors for the Federal Republic of Germany. Highlights include celebratory concerts in Beijing and Shanghai to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and the People's Republic of China, the world's first concert by a classical symphony orchestra in Yemen in the presence of the President of the Bundestag, the „Welcome in Europe“ concert in Nicosia to mark Cyprus's forthcoming accession to the EU, concerts in Kefalonia via Athens to Crete to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, and the "Welcome to Europe" concert in the capital of Cyprus. The orchestra also performed tolerance concerts in Istanbul and Antalya, where it was honored for its services to cultural rapprochement between peoples.
Since 2011, the Europa Philharmonie has been actively involved in efforts to promote a sustainable climate policy with its climate concerts and in the same year took over the patronage of the rds umbrella campaign for renewable energies. Personalities such as the UN climate chief Christiana Figueres; former Federal Minister and former Executive Director of UNEP, Prof. Dr. Klaus Töpfer; Bill McKibben, environmentalist and co-founder of 350.org, Nobel Peace Prize winner Prof. Muhammad Yunus support the climate protection concerts. From late fall 2013, the Europa Philharmonie will be launching an initiative for children and young people specifically for the northern part of Saxony-Anhalt.

For Andreas Lewerken, initiator of the ArtHotel and founder of the family-run Kiebitzberg® Group, the hotel is „Kiebitzberg® you can touch“, as all trades are interlinked here. Planning, interior design, furniture construction, solid surface processing and metalwork. The rooms feature custom-made wardrobes, furniture and washbasins designed by Kiebitzberg® and produced in-house. Different areas that have one thing in common: the use of high-quality materials. Each room has its own individual touch, no two are the same. And that's what makes the ArtHotel so special.
Location Havelberg
The cathedral and island town of Havelberg is considered the cradle of Prignitz. The idyllic Hanseatic town lies in the middle of the green north-east of Germany on the „Romanesque Road“. The Elbe and Havel rivers and various cycle path networks meet here. These include the Elbe Cycle Path and Havel Cycle Path, which are among the most popular in Germany and Europe. The former bishop's seat is part of the „Blue Ribbon“ water tourism project and the BUGA 2015 region. Magdeburg, Berlin and Hamburg are each around 2 hours away by car.
