Floating refuges - nesting islands help birds to breed

No country has understood like Germany that nature and people must live in harmony if we want to inhabit this planet in the long term. We cannot „turn back the clock“. However, we can help nature to help itself. If we stabilize cycles where they have been disrupted and provide targeted impetus. A good example of this is the renaturation of the Havel floodplains. The spread of non-native animal species, such as the raccoon, requires just such an effort. Our nesting islands are just such an impulse that can be used specifically where bird populations are in danger. All you need is an area of water where the nesting islands can be used.

The nesting islands in use

Made of aluminum, our nesting islands are durable and offer special  ground breeders a small oasis where they can incubate their eggs without stress. The islands are placed in a body of water, preferably protected, close to the endangered population. Concrete weights or stainless steel anchors hold the island in position. The island is filled with soil. If necessary, special breeding conditions can also be created depending on the species. The „island position“ means that predators such as raccoons can no longer reach the eggs. Special outer edges on the edge of the platform also ward off swimming predators. The nesting islands significantly increase the birds' chances of success when breeding and help bird populations to recover.
