After decades of planning and construction, the city of Leipzig has opened its new maritime center: the Leipzig City Harbor. Where an abandoned industrial site once stood, visionary urban development and the restoration of historic waterways have created a state-of-the-art destination for water sports and tourism.

To carry out this major project, the Kiebitzberg Group was commissioned to provide turnkey construction of the entire pier system. The sophisticated overall design includes a total of five individual piers on the inner pier, three piers on the outer pier, and a special pier for canoeists.

To meet the requirements of the Leipzig City Harbor, we have implemented a solution that combines maximum flexibility with uncompromising durability. The foundation is our seamless, corrosion-resistant aluminum construction and the modular OpenG® system. Since all jetty elements, bridges, and finger piers are fully compatible and designed to be backward-compatible for decades, even the City of Leipzig’s existing Kiebitzberg facilities could be sustainably integrated. Special multi-hinged floats, which safely absorb winter loads and ice pressure, also ensure reliable, year-round operation of the inland port. The result is a durable, low-maintenance system that can be easily expanded, adapted, and repaired throughout its entire service life.
