July 27, 2012
On Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 7 p.m., MDR television will be showing a surfing trip by presenter and water sports enthusiast Sascha Fröhlich on the program „Sachsen-Anhalt heute“. Not just any trip and not just anywhere, but on a world first in Havelland. The 2Wave surf boat by Frank Sorge from Premnitz generates two even stern waves for surfing and is now in use near Pritzerbe.
Surfing in Germany? New „spot“ in Havelland
Where can you surf in Germany? Not kitesurfing, not wakeboarding, but surfing. Just the wave, the surfboard and you. This is a question you ask yourself at the latest when you come home from the European surf meccas of Portugal, Spain or France and have taken advantage of the perfect conditions for a ride on the wave. Because then you are stoked and want more. And not just a year later on your next vacation.
So once again the question: is it possible to surf in Germany and if so, where? There are surfable waves on Sylt, Borkum and Norderney. But you can't rely on that. Variant 2 are the so-called standing waves. There is a natural one at Munich's Eisbach, while an artificial one has been available in Bispingen, Lüneburg Heath, since fall 2010.
One boat - 2 waves to surf
From now on - and this is a world first for surfers - you can Surfing in Havelland (here the last video to the „Surfing with the 2Wave surf boat“). Namely behind a boat, either to starboard or port. Or you can use both waves equally and surf from one to the other. „The idea of synchronized surfing is particularly appealing,“ says two-time Berlin-Brandenburg wakeboarding champion Frank Sorge with a twinkle in his eye.
The scarce 6.50 meter long, covered motorboat was published in the Kiebitzberg® shipyard built. After many rejections and setbacks at other shipyards, Frank Sorge and Andreas Lewerken, founder and managing director of the Havelberg-based family business, were immediately on the same wavelength and implemented the project together from start to finish. „The question of whether we could build a boat that creates two waves for surfing was more than unusual. Professional shipbuilding normally has completely different requirements. One of them is to create as few waves as possible while sailing. The smoother the boat lies on the water, the better. This different perspective and idea of the perfect boat immediately inspired me,“ says Lewerken, thinking back to the early days. No wonder, because for him, unusual projects are as much a part of Kiebitzberg® as the cathedral in Havelberg. Success has proved him right for 27 years and the experienced entrepreneur was also right about the surf boat.
MDR television accompanies 2Wave surf boat
On December 15, 2012, the 2Wave surfboat was christened and launched for the first time in Havelberg. The MDR was there on a test tour. Of course, Frank Sorge didn't miss the opportunity to treat himself to a ride on the wave. The winter sun was on his side that day. „A good sign, although a lot of fine-tuning was on the agenda in the following months,“ says Frank Sorge, looking back on the last few months. „That was foreseeable and is also normal for a completely new type of boat like the surfboat,“ says Andreas Lewerken, who has years of experience in shipbuilding and is looking forward to the MDR broadcast on Sunday.
